Monster 1100-Pound Tiger Shark Caught In Martha's Vineyard

posted Sunday, 17 July 2005

Fisherman on Martha's Vineyard, Mass. display a massive 1,100-pound tiger shark Sunday, July 17, 2005. Unfortunately, the fisherman failed to capture first place in the monster shark derby because their boat was six minutes too late in returning to Oak Bluffs harbor with its catch.

(Boston, MA) - A fishing crew caught the largest prize in a fishing derby, but didn't actually capture first place over the weekend in Martha's Vineyard.

Damon Sacco, who caught and killed an 1,100 pound Tiger Shark, considers the feat a great one, but is heartbroken his team didn't win the cash prize because they missed the deadline by six minutes.

They were late because they had to slowly and carefully drag the massive beast back to the harbor. Although the shark didn't win the competition, it did win the admiration of other fisherman.

Wow now that you proved yourself you can go home and beat your chest ... your ' woman ' will think more of you ! Tell me do you also own a big dog and a sports car ? ;-) ...... lacking something ? This to me does not look like a task that displays 'admiration'. What do you think? Catching and killing a magnificent animal just so it can be strung up and added to someone's trophy list. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I would like to hear your defence, what do you say? "It was coming right for us!"? Hardly, this creature had no chance. Just like the rest of the sharks caught at this competition. Then is no valour, heroism or 'admiration' in this act.

If you must continue to catch sharks, at least you could do so with some purpose such as to aid the data collection for the IUCN Red List of endangered species (catch and release). Many species of shark are on the brink of extinction...

Animal rights have everything to do with this you numbnut. This shark wasn't farm raised for the purpose of feeding people. SHARK KILLERS are just that. Murderous jackasses. I didn't eat beef for dinner last night, nor any fowl or swine. Im not a vegetarian or a vegan. I JUST REALIZE THAT EATING ANIMAL FOR EVERY MEAL IS STUPID. By the way you too are an animal....... if only another species had the numbers to fight back against the stupid human race. Yes OUR stupid human race. destroy anything we touch in the name of God or for Pride..... such a joke. Look at the "men" in this picture.... they couldnt fight an 8 yr old girl without cheating.

Wow, this is absolutely mind-boggling. How stupid can human race get? Sharks have been around since the beginning of time and humans find it amusing? If you find this acceptable you're a complete moron.

I agree. Some people have to over compensate for the tiny twig and berries they have in their trousers. Its pathetic. Im a sportsman myself, mainly catch and release unless its a very tasty fish and I then only keep what me and my family will eat. All else goes back in the lake, river, or ocean. But to kill these already threatened animals for sport is sad. If you want to catch them for sport fine, but why not tag and release them so that scientist can gather information to better the odds of survival of the species? Im no vegitarian, but I believe as my native american ancestors practiced ... only take from the land what you can use. Killing only for sport shows low intelligence and over abundant testosterone in my book.

Yeah you tree hugging panzi;s dont get it....That is a tiger shark....that is an animal that is large enough to eat a small child who is on vacation with his commie pinko fag parents when all of the sudden.....no legs, gee why not fish the big ones out and continue to let the species breed, is it not obvious that its a mature adult...not like they were killing babys in the nest...... Great catch guys...thanks for saving a few boaters in distress....what pound test did you use I wonder? come lets get a few outta the waters off NC.

Hey all you shark loving fools who have posted your profanity laden responses, I thought you'd like to know that animals kill for fun too. Have you ever seen a killer whale play with a dead seal by tossing it 50 feet in the air repeatedly? It's pretty entertaining. I had a cat that would do the same thing with mice, birds, rabbits, etc. I hope that someday you'll be blessed with the opportunity to swim with a bunch of 1 ton tiger sharks and see how noble and sweet they are when you're out there in the great deep. Actually, bring a lot of chum and tuna with you when you go. Feed as many as you can! Oh, and bring all your shark loving friends. I'm sure they'll want to enjoy the experience with you. Don't forget to take pictures and video!!!! As for me, looking at these pics of a 1 ton fish just makes me hungry, and I don't even know what tiger shark tastes like.
